Lowenstein Theater
2526 East Colfax Avenue
In May of 2005 St. Charles Town Company purchased the vacant Lowenstein Theater and adjacent land at 2526 East Colfax Avenue, and has now completed an award-winning $16 million retail development. Financing includes loans from the City of Denver’s Office of Economic Development, tax-increment reimbursement loans, historic tax credit syndication, and conventional financing. The project provides an anchor retail project for the long-awaited redevelopment of Denver’s East Colfax and is now hastening revitalization efforts within ten blocks. Tenants include some of Denver’s best known local businesses, Tattered Cover Book Store and Twist & Shout Records. The development includes 56,400 square feet of retail and a 230-space parking structure. Most importantly, the project incorporates the preservation of the mid-century modern Lowenstein Theater. St. Charles Town Company received the 2006 Community Preservation Award for its work on the Lowenstein Theater redevelopment from Historic Denver and the 2007 AIA Merit Award.
